Curriculum Intention:

  • So that students can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of Computing
  • To allow students the exposure to analyse problems in computational terms
  • To have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve any problems
  • To ensure they are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of ICT
  • Prepares students looking to take GCSE Computer Science, where the skills developed will be:
  • Their knowledge of computer science, digital media and information technology
  • To apply their analytic, problemsolving, design, and computational thinking skills
  • To understand how changes in technology affect safety

Outcomes:

  • Pupils should be able to use computational thinking and creativity.
  • Pupils could make links with mathematics, science, and design.
  • An understanding of how digital systems work.
  • Should be equipped to use IT to create programs, systems and content.
  • Students must be more digitally literate for their futures
  • Through practice tasks in lessons  
  • Through homework completed (all digitally)
  • Through class based discussions and AFL in lessons
  • Through improved student data / marks
  • From Diagnostic Tests results (allowing students to go through the testing environment in the same setting as the certification test)
  • Students will be advised to have a passing rate of 80%+ for the diagnostic test before being encouraged to sit for the actual ICDL certification test

Employability skills:

The following skills are acquired and practiced throughout: Evaluate information and changes in technology; Interpret, use and evaluate data; Be effective communicators; Understand the principles, concepts and techniques associated with the technology of computers and digital communication systems; identify and handle ethical, and social issues in relation to ICT;

Manage time; Learn independence.

 

Year 8 (ICDL)

  • To ensure students have the best possible chance at passing all the modules
  • To allow students the opportunity for increased practice
  • To ensure students have high standards and are aiming for 100% pass on all modules studied
  • Students can go onto complete Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) at another institution or move onto the BTEC Level 3 National Extended certificate in Information Technology offered in school.
