Some of our fantastic Year 9’s took part in a Samsung STEM Computer Science Competition last month called:

‘Solve for Tomorrow Next Gen’, on the theme: ‘Inclusivity’ - (11-13 & 11-15 Categories)

Our students were selected from 1000 competition entries of which 2357 students took part nationally from the following two categories:

  • Winners - Runners Up
  • Final 10 Short List

The Winners – Runners Up are:

  • Victor. Assumpcao
  • Kashvi. Khatri
  • Jamil. Abdin

They designed a ‘Sign Language Translator Glove (SLTG)’ which the Samusung Team thought was fantastic.

They have each won a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, a VIP trip to Samsung KX Kings Cross, London in September and Certificates for recognition of their excellent work.

Samsung will be looking to set up regular workshop days at St Thomas More from September 2023.  This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to put theory into practice and to see the concrete links from our Learning Scientist Techniques in reality! as well as helping to achieve the Gatsby Bench Mark 5 (Encounters with Employers and Employees)

Final 10 Short List are:

  • Conor. Smith
  • Rhuigo. Cortez

They designed an ‘Emotion-Enhancing device (EMBER)’ which is a wearable device most likely a watch, which would use biometric data and AI to recognise and respond to a user's emotional state. Samsung thought this was “a very smart way to include modern day technology for an important solution”.

They have been issued with certificates for their excellent designs.
