The Role of the Learning Mentor

As the Learning Mentor at St Thomas More I work to support students in identifying their barriers to learning and to help them develop strategies to overcome them.  These barriers include social, emotional and behavioural problems.  My aim is to support students to ensure that they engage more effectively with their learning, in order to achieve to the best of their ability.  This is done mainly through a 1:1 supportive relationship or small group work.  I liaise closely with teachers and other support professionals and often act as a supportive link between family and school.  Generally students are referred to me by their Head of Year but they can be referred by any member of staff.
