Content.
The course is centred on design and problem-solving using pupils' imagination, knowledge and use of materials and technology. It demands active workshop experience and the production of works of quality.
Pupils can become versatile in a range of materials but can specialise in the latter stages of the course. A fundamental knowledge of wood, metal and plastics is developed and there is a possibility of using other materials. Pupils will also develop a wide knowledge of a range of tools and processes.
The course also aims to develop an understanding of CAD/CAM, systems and control and mass production techniques. The use of IT skills in coursework will be encouraged.
Assessment: Either Foundation: Papers 1 & 3 40%
or
Higher: Papers 2 & 4 40%
and
Coursework: Paper 5 60%
