CLASS (Community Listening and Support Service)

CLASS is a peer led anti-bullying service operated by volunteer students.

Operating in conjunction with the school's existing Anti-bullying Policy, CLASS helps to deal with the problem of bullying by allowing students to access those of their own age to discuss problems.

Volunteers are trained as 'Listeners'.  They are not counsellors, they do not offer advice.  They do help those students who feel that they are being bullied by helping the student to reach their own decisions about the situation. Training involves listening skills, dealing with confidentiality & mediation skills.

The service is open to all members of the community students and staff. Members of CLASS can be identified by the badges they wear and a number of them are on duty every day for people to approach.  Posters around the school give details about where and when CLASS members are available.

It is almost impossible to eradicate bullying in a school, but through the work of CLASS we aim to drastically reduce the occurrences.
