Thinking Skills Development
The development of high level thinking at St Thomas Catholic Teaching School has been an exciting development.
Staff have embedded the use of Higher Order thinking using Blooms Taxonomy to deepen the range and depth of questions that they are asking to secure learning.
In the Enrichment Course in Year 9 students have acquired a toolkit of methods to expand and recall their thinking. These methods include De Bono’s Six Hat Thinking and Thinking Maps.
In order to develop effective habits of learning for our students we have as a school have tried to embed Art Costa’s Habits of mind, this has impacted on our learning in school by building corporate resilience and determination.
Some of the ideas that we have developed have a unique STM bias we have shared these as part of the work of Teaching School with other staff, this has been an enriching experience for all.
