School Direct Training Programmes
St Thomas More Teaching School works closely with the Bedfordshire Schools’ Training Partnership to provide Secondary School Direct placements and, for placements for September 2014 onwards, with Bedfordshire Schools’ Training Partnership and Robert Bloomfield Teaching School to provide Primary placements in teacher training as part of the School Direct Programmes.
Through the School Direct Programmes, we are able to match local needs closely with the places and the subjects we offer. Therefore, if you are successful in a School Direct placement, you will be directly responding to a local need for teaching staff. However, whilst there is help to try and secure you interviews within the Alliance of schools used, there can be no promise of employment at the end of the training year. There is no guarantee, as with any Training placement, that the school will employ you.
There are two routes to consider:
School Direct Training Programme. This route is aimed at high quality graduates. The cost of the course is available on application, as this is under review, but some applicants might be entitled to a bursary to assist with these costs. You might also be entitled to apply for a student loan. From the start of the course, you will be in a school and work with students and teachers. All Professional Studies lectures/workshops will take place at the end of the school day.
School Direct Training Programme (salaried). This route is aimed at high quality, experienced graduates who have had at least 3 years’ work experience. Following this route, you will be employed by the school and receive a salary during your training year. Just as with the non-salaried placement, you will be in school and work with students and teachers from day one. All Professional Studies lectures/workshops will take place at the end of the school day.
