St Thomas More
Catholic Secondary School

We have a wide range to offer students in the art and graphics department, from clubs to workshops and competitions and trips. Our aim is to work with individuals, so for example we offer time for our GCSE and A-Level students, in particular, who want or need extra support on their projects. This might be discussing new inspirations or learning new techniques that they can then use to develop their work.

As well as the weekly AGT art club for Year 9s, we work with exceptionally able students from any year, giving them extra work that they can engage with, which will stretch and challenge them so that they can make accelerated progress.

Art Clubs

- Catch up clubs on Tuesday lunchtime, Wednesday and Thursday after school.

- Y9 AGT art/graphics club Wednesday after school (students can learn, practice and improve new techniques that they might want to use at GCSE)

Competitions, Trips and Exhibitions

Last year we entered the Harpur Trust anniversary competition and plan on doing the same this year, as they are continuing it. This year we also entered The Arts Society, North Bedfordshire Sixth Form Art Competition, and are thrilled to have 3 pieces exhibited in the Basement (John Bunyan Museum) and the Higgins Museum in Bedford. We were very proud that one of our students, Daria Schmitka won the 'Bedford Heritage Day' art competition in the 6th form category, which was run by the Polish Language and Culture Association.

In the recent past we have also won the Diocese Pentecost art competition and were runner up in the Aspects design competition.

Our recent trips have included the 6th form London and Freize Fair trip and Year 7 workshop at the Higgins gallery.

We are proud to display our students’ art work around the school, these are on rotation to ensure that we are able to showcase as much of our home grown talent as possible! We also held an exhibition on our Years 7 and 8 art work, as part of our Advent Concert.
